Student Emergency Kit Reminder
Have you turned in your child’s emergency kit yet? Students at Boston Harbor Elementary School are required to have an emergency kit kept at school in case of an emergency. These kits would only be used if we were stranded at school overnight or longer. Here is the list of items to include in each kit. These non-breakable emergency kit items can be stored in a one-gallon zip lock bag labeled with your child’s first and last name.

___ One bottle of water
___ One box of juice
___ 3 nonperishable foods: choice of granola bars, energy bars, fruit roll-ups
___ Items for child to use: markers or crayons and paper, book, cards
___ Personal family comfort reminder such as family photo or letter
___ One large garbage bag (poncho)

Grand Slam Book Drive!
The Grand Slam Book Drive through South Sound Reading Foundation (SSRF) is off to a great start. Thank you to everyone who has donated books so far! The drive will run from October 1st – October 31st and a donation box will be available in the school lobby. SSRF donate books to students in the community, many of whom are low-income and do not have access to books in their home.

The school that donates the most books gets a school assembly visit from the Mariner Moose, and the school that collects the most books per student wins an ice cream social with the South Sound Reading Foundation mascot Booker T. Bear, for up to 100 kids!

This year, they are especially in need of beginning readers, easy chapter books, picture books, and any Spanish or bilingual Spanish & English books, but would love donations of any books other than textbooks, encyclopedias, religious books, magazines, or books for adults! These books cannot be counted toward the school’s competing tally, so please avoid donating them if possible.

CISPUS Holiday Wreath Fundraiser
OSDEF Cispus Holiday Wreath sales on now! Buy yours at Boston Harbor Elementary to support 5th grade Outdoor Education. From October 5 to November 2, you can pre-order a beautiful wreath for your holiday decor. Your purchase will support overnight outdoor education in the Olympia School District(CISPUS). These make terrific gifts, so remember your neighbors, family and friends. Wreaths are $22 each, with proceeds going to assure funding for overnight environmental studies for our 5th graders, sponsored by the Olympia School District Education Foundation (OSDEF). Wreath delivery will be just prior to Thanksgiving break. 5th grade campers are especially encouraged to sell 4 wreaths each.  Questions? Special bulk orders? Contact Mike or Betty Erdahl.

OSD Strategic Plan
Greetings Boston Harbor Families. At last night's meeting we had a chance to discuss strategic planning with representatives of Olympia School District. This is a great opportunity to participate as the district develops it's plan for the next five years. If you are interested in what the school district is working on information is posted on their website at www.osd.wednet.edu. Look for the "Strategic Planning" webpage.

Crayola Colorcycle Program
We are excited to be working with Crayola for their Colorcycle program. We will be collecting any brand of worn out markers, highlighters and dry erase markers to send to Crayola to be recycled and turned into clean energy. There is a bin in the front lobby where you can drop off your markers. Please see attached flyer for more information.

Halloween Carnival
Halloween Carnival will be on October 27th from 5 to 8 p.m. BSPTA is working hard to make sure that this year's carnival will be a success but that will be impossible without help from our families. A sign-up genius for volunteers will be posted next week. We would love to have you come and help in any way that you choose. If you recently bought a refrigerator or have some big pieces of cardboard waiting to go to recycle we would love to turn it into something spooky. Looking for cardboard, poster board or large pieces of paper Tad Devitt will be accepting donations of construction supplies for the haunted house. He will also be hosting a work party on Sunday October 21st from 12-4 p.m. to work on decorations and do some repairs and upgrades to the games. If you are interested contact Tad at [email protected].

BHS All School Play
