Police to conduct active shooter training Aug. 17 and 31

The Olympia Police Department will conduct an active shooter training on August 17 and August 31 at the school district’s John Rogers Building, a facility on 26th Avenue Northeast that formerly housed the Olympia Regional Learning Academy and John Rogers Elementary School.

The routine annual in-service training for Olympia Police Department patrol officers will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.

The John Rogers campus, located at 2001 26th Ave. N.E., will be closed with signs around the property clearly notifying people that police training is underway. Olympia police plan to hold most of the practice inside of the building with little of the activity visible to the public. Police report the tools they will use are not expected to cause any alarming noises. An occasional loud voice may be heard by adjacent neighbors, and several police patrol vehicles will be in the building’s parking areas.

Any questions about this training may be directed to Olympia Police Lt. Paul Lower at 360-753-8410.

District achieves many successes in 2015-16

The Olympia School District is proud of our students and staff who achieve amazing successes every day. In an effort to recognize and celebrate those achievements both inside and outside the classroom,we have compiled a 2015-16 Accomplishments list.  The list includes academic, athletic and extracurricular accomplishments that involve members of the Olympia School District community.

This will be an evolving document, changing as we learn of new reasons to celebrate student achievement, continuous improvement and 100 percent commitment to quality in our district.  In September of 2016, we will begin a new list for the 2016-17 school year.
